ruined. The President and his advisor Jordan, meet the representatives
of the newspaper and try to reach a compromise in order to avoid legal
action.
Participants: The President and his

One or two representatives of the newspaper
A lawyer
Helpful vocabulary:
A lawsuit, court, damage, compensation,
apology, irresponsible reporters, evidence, reach an agreement, misunderstanding
,retract one`s words.
Information regarding this issue:
-
Clinton has lives with constant scandal
since 1992, before he was even
elected to the White House. There
were repeated allegations of sexual
infidelity.
-
None of these candelas has seriously damaged
Clinton`s popularity, which
still remains high. Neither has it
hampered his ability to govern.
-
President Clinton had an affair with Gennifer
Flowers, the cabaret
singer, which he denied in his 1992
campaign for the presidency.
Last Saturday, he acknowledged it.
-
Paula Jones, the former Arkansas state
employee sued Clinton for sexual
harassment. Clinton denied it.
-
Miss Lewinsky, claims she had sexual relationship
with President Clinton
while she was working in the White
House. She says Clinton forced her to
lie. She also says she has tape recordings
secretly made of earlier talks with
him. Clinton denied under oath he had
an affiar with Lewinsky, but
admitted giving her personal gifts.
Points to be taken into consideration:
-
Should a president endure questions about
his self-discipline, his morals,
and his honesty? (and questions about his
sex life..)
Are all these questions legitimate?
Do the American people have the
right to get all these answers?
-
prosecutor Kenneth Starr may soon compel
Lewinsky to testify in the case
in exchange for immunity from prosecution.
How convincing is her
testimony?
-
Americans can`t focus on anything else
but this case.
-
Isn`t the whole case a “theater of the
absurd?”
