Divided into units which concentrate on a particular sound (phoneme), the units are then broken down into a series of detailed lesson plans (less work for the teacher!) where each lesson is devoted to a common spelling pattern for that sound. For example, three common ways of spelling the sound /I/ are presented in three different lessons: i-e (as in TIME), igh (as in NIGHT) and -y (as in CRY).

Every lesson contains:

• A step-by-step lesson plan
• Background information for the teacher
• Listening activities (at three levels)
• Photocopiable activities at all three levels, with answers
• Suggested words for testing each spelling pattern

This is an extremely flexible resource that can be used in a variety of classes. Its highly adaptable structure means that it is suitable for both second or foreign language teaching and also first language contexts.
