The games below were developed within the framework of
the "English Room Project" in the Western Galilee
confrontation line area. Five state-of-the-art English rooms
were built in five elementary schools and the teachers have
been working together to prepare theme materials for the
rooms. Click here to see pictures of
the rooms.
The English rooms are being developed under the auspices
of the NCJW Research Institute for Innovation in Education,
School of Education, The Hebrew University. The rooms and
training program are funded by the Clore Foundation and
the British UJIA. The pedagogical advisor is Professor Elite
Olshtein (Hebrew University). The teacher training is given
by Gail Mann (Branco Weiss) and the project coordinator
is Liat Levi of the NCJW.
The success of this project depended on the full support
of the Ministry of Education and we would like to thank
Maida Nechushtan for her constant support and involvment
in ensuring that this dream comes true.
All the games presented here were developed and created
by Anat Hadad, an educational games advisor together with
the elementary school English teachers in the project: Anna
Zvagelsky (Betzet school), Liora Davidi (Meona school),
Mina Maydanikov (Harav Maimon - Shlomi), Sigal Edri (Ben
Zvi - Shlomi) and Sara Habag (Reychaniah).
All the games are familiar to our pupils and enable them
to communicate, experiment and play while enriching their
basic EFL vocabulary. While the pupils are playing, the
teacher has the chance to observe the pupils and spend time
with a small group on particular focused instruction and
assistance.
The games can be downloaded as word documents to be printed
out (this may take a while depending on your Internet connection
speed). The cards and boards should be pasted on cardboard
and laminated. As these are word documents, you can adapt
and change the contents of each game to suit your particular
classes.
Each game has a set of cards, a checkpage and a page of
instructions. The games are divided into themes in the table
below.
