Phase 2--Scaffolding SEN issues
This phase of the course will involve participants in mastering basic principles of learning for students with special educational needs, including the following modules:
Module 1
Taking control of your computer--setting display, accessibility and other options on computer and browsers, and how to assess your students' needs
We take it for granted: sit down at the computer, open a program, begin to work...
But for students with special educational needs, learning about how to customize their desktops, programs and internet browser can make the difference between yet another frustrating and unsuccessful visit to the computer lab, and an enjoyable learning experience, where learners feel that they have taken control of their work environment. And that you, as teachers, are sensitive to their special needs, and can guide them in exploring and taking control of this new work and learning environment.
It also is the beginning of the road to learner independence.
This module will
- re-introduce participants to special functions contained in the control panel, browser and Word program options that are either specially designed or can be used to aid students
- suggest some ideas for how to prepare materials for students
Your assignment
Participants will receive 4 hours for the successful completion of this unit.
Each participant will be required to produce the following by Thursday December 7, 2000:
- at least one suggestion to the "Taking Control: Tips" Forum
- at least one additional link or resource added to the "Taking Control: Links" Forum
- a graded activity, including a worksheet or presentation for students, that implements one of the learning goals of this unit.
This activity can be presented in the form of a web page or Office program document that will be uploaded to this site.
The activity will be graded through the use of a checklist that you will be required to submit.
Participants are encouraged to consult with the instructor through e-mail in order to complete this phase of the module.
