A Proposed Definition for SEN Students
for our Curriculum in Israel

The population of students with learning differences is varied in the degree and nature of difficulties that impede the acquisition, processing and skill development necessary for becoming proficient in English.

This population includes, but is not limited to those students who have difficulty learning English because of one or more of the following reasons:

  1. the student's has physical differences including visual, aural, oral, motor, or other diagnosable conditions.
  2. the student has learning disabilities, and suitable accomodations for these problems have not been identified and used, or the accomodations when applied are insufficient to reach benchmark expectations;
  3. the student has behavioral or emotional disorders;
  4. the student has difficulties in one or more skill areas as a result of a preferred learning style that is not presently or adequately accommodated in the EFL classroom;
  5. the student's has environmental or family problems;
  6. the student has immigrated from another country, or has grown up in an environment where the language environment is different, and his language acquisition abilities have not been adequately assessed or addressed.
