Letters from Students in the 10th Grade, Makif Ariel School
Teacher - Rahel sheli_e@zahav.net.il
Dear Friend,
I live in Israel in the city of Ariel .
As a person who lives in a country that is full of acts of terror I can identify with your feelings that include great anger. I also realize that you all feel horror when you look at the ruins.
When I saw the terrible sight on television, I felt sadness, and a feeling of insecurity. then I understood that acts of terror happen not only in Israel, but also in other countries in the world and that understanding made me feel very hopeless.
Therefore, now more than ever you and us (here in Israel) have to stay strong -never give up, keep the faith and think positive.
Yours sincerely,
Shiran.
Dear friend,
I live in Ariel, which is in Israel. I can truly identify with your grief and mourning due to the fact that we have been through a lot of terrorists attacks, and we have lost many people. All these people wanted was to return home, or go to work.
I was terribly shocked when I saw the Twin towers collapsing on TV. That image hasn't left my mind since then. It made me tremble. Before the collapse, I saw people jumping from the top floors. People were running and crying. Right after that I saw the Twin Towers collapse floor by floor!.
I will remember this day for as long as I live. I admire the American nation for the strength it has shown the days after the attack. I know that nobody can completely overcome this disaster but I hope you'll be strong and healthy.
Sincerely yours,
Elinor.
Dear Friend,
My name is Mor and I am from Israel. Here, we live in fear and terror all our lives. We understand the feelings that you have after the big tragedy on September 11th.
It's hard in one day to turn your life around from peace and
security to crisis and fear. It's scary to think that there are people with a lot of hate that are willing to kill innocent people. All the world wants to stop terror and to find the leaders that send the terrorists.
DEAR FRIENDS:
I'm in the 10th grade and I live in Israel.
I just wanted you to know that we all understand your pain, after all we see it everyday in Israel.
The Israeli people felt great pain when the Twin Towers collapsed, and nobody knew what was going on there. We watched T.V all day long.
I always saw America as an undefeatable country, and that nothing could happen to her,
but now I can see that we all need to start fighting terror.
I felt extreme sorrow, and I actually cried.
Now I want you all to wake up and see what's going on in the world, and start fighting terrorism with Israel.
I wish you all a better year, and a healthy life.
We are all with you no matter what…
Shimrit Levi and the people of Israel.
Dear President of the U.S.A:
I live in the city of Ariel in Israel.
I think that the tragic event that happened in New York was very terrible.
Here in Israel these kinds of tragic events are not new, because they happen to us almost everyday.
I think that now you can identify with all our families who are in mourning, because your country only had experienced one tragic event, a very very tragic event, but only one, whereas Israel experiences them (like I said before) almost everyday.
I hope that now you will try to do something to avoid these acts of terrorism also in my country.
Yours sincerely,
Gal Refael.
Dear Friend,
I live in Ariel on the west bank of Israel.
We had memorial services for the victims of the attack in Israel. On the 11th of september, when the terror attacked the American, I felt your sadness and anger that day.
The acts of terror are very tragic for the Israel and the Unites States. Today I can say that I do not feel confient in my own country because of all the terrorist attacks. Now you too, probably feel the fear of living in a country o.k where terrorist attacks. Because all of the warnings, I am sometimes afraid to leave my home, but I think Israelis in general have gotten used to the situation.
I identify with all American teenagers so I can give you advice and also to my own people: Do not give up your faith, and let s hope the situation will improve.
Your sincerely,
Shiran Tzabary.
Dear friend,
I identify with your feelings about the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers. As you know here in Israel there are more terrorist attacks but fortunately not as big.
When it happened I was on my way home and I heard on the radio that the first airplane had crashed into the first building of the Twin Towers. I was in shock, I didn't think that something like this could be done to the USA.
In conclusion, I think that all the countries need to fight for freedom and clear the world of terror.
Sincerely Yours,
Yevgeny
Dear People of New York,
At first when I saw the plane crashing into the "Twin Towers" I thought it was some movie but later I understood that this is not a movie but reality. I was shocked to see such horror, when the Twin Towers collapsed; I felt my heart collapsing with the Twin Towers!
People in Israel feel the pain of New York because in the past two years they feel the pain of loss almost every day.
After this disaster I was very mad at the American government because they let this happen.
They saw what is going on in Israel and they knew that they are next. America never paid attention to the signs until was too late. It was like that in the past and it will be like that in the future. During World War II, America thought that this war wasn't theirs, until Japan bombed the American navy at "Pearl Harbor".
Ben Laden was very stupid because he thought that he was destroying the world economy but actually he murdered thousands of people for nothing because America can rebuild the Towers but she can't bring these people back. I truly feel the pain of New York and I hope that in the future America won't let something like this happen again.
Yours truly,
Rafailov Rita From Israel.
Dear friends of America
I'm 15 years old and I'm writing to you this letter just to show, my support of the American nation.
When the first plane hit the Twin Towers I was watching this on T.V. I couldn't believe that this kind of thing could happen to the U.S.A.
After the attack I was sad for all the victims that were dead or still alive under the ruins. I was sorry for the families of the victims. It was such a horrible thing to do and I can't believe that a human being can do something like this-that is, killing thousands of innocents! ! !
I just want to say to all the American people that you are a great country and I think that maybe this disaster will teach us all something important: We are all human beings who want to live peacefully!
Yours sincerely,
Nina Lazarev
Dear friends,
Actually, I felt very surprised and shocked while watching TV when the terrorists attack happened. I'm sure you felt like me too, you and every single man or woman that saw that terrible event.
Here, in Israel, I feel it very often. In Israel there are a lot of terrorist attacks (most of them in TEL-AVIV). On the news, we constantly hear about a lot of warnings about terrorist attacks.
However, we need to deal with this situation by continuing to live our lives, trying to be happy and overcoming our bad feelings.
Yours sincerely,
Tzahi Shachar
Dear friends.
I'm 15 years old and I live in Israel.
I'm writing this letter to you to identify with these tragic acts of terror that took place in the U.S. last year. What happened to you was horrible, and I want to give you my support. I know that you must feel a great sense of loss, and we, the Israeli youth identify with you. The Twin Towers collapsed killing thousands of victims. The attack on the Pentagon claimed many lives too and It is very tragic!
All this sorrow was caused by terror .I can't believe that something so tragic could happen to the U.S. I think that after this tragic event, you can understand what we have to deal with everyday. It is horrifying that people can be that evil, and hurt so many innocent people.
I hope that you can deal with this, and move on with your lives.
Yours sincerely
Miri
Dear Friends,
I identify with the pain you felt on September 11th, 2001. It was a big tragic event. I feel sorrow for the people you lost.
I feel your pain. In Israel a lot of people are dying every day, because of terrorism.
I was at home when it happened; the regular broadcast stopped and showed the Twin Towers go down. I was in shock! I couldn't believe that it happened; I started to cry I felt the pain.
I hope you know no more sorrow.
Yours Sincerely,
Jessica Sweeden
Dear American Citizen,
The North Tower was in flames. Smoke was coming out of it like a chimney from where the plane hit it, and before anyone could realize what was going on a second airplane came out of nowhere and crashed into the South Tower. While the rescue teams where trying to evacuate the towers, the people trapped on the upper floors couldn't get out. Those floors were filled with fire and smoke, so the people were crowding the windows trying to get some air and trying to signal for help. Some of those people despaired of hope and rescue decided to jump from the windows. Then first the South Tower and then the North Tower collapsed burying alive the people trapped inside, those who did not have enough time to get out and the rescue teams working in the buildings. That event will remain in my heart and mind for as long as I live.
I, as an American citizen who is living in Israel, identify with the tragic event that occurred over a year ago. Thankfully, a terror attack of that magnitude has not occurred in Israel, although in the present situation it might yet occur.
Moreover, I as a human being feel the need to scream out to the whole world and ask "WHY?" Why would a human being do such a despicable act and destroy innocent lives'?
Yours,
Aviva Atkins,
Ariel, Israel.
Dear Friend
Hello, my name is Shani Avita and I live in Ariel, Israel.
I feel very sorry about your tragic anniversary, and I want you to know that we identify with your sorrow and grief.
In Israel we have a lot of terrorist attacks and we live in daily fear. I know you fear too but we don't have to be afraid, we need to be strong and get through these hard times.
When I heard about your tragic event I was at home, watching T.V and suddenly the regular T.V broadcasts stopped, and all the channels were talking about the terrorist attacks.
I was in shock and prayed for America.
A few hours later when I heard about the many dead people I felt a lot of pain and sorrow.
Now, I think about all the ruined families and I thank God for every day I am alive!
I am sorry America!
Your sincerely,
Shani Avita!
Dear friend
My name is Nastiya and I am living in Israel.
I was very shocked and angry when I heard about the Twin Towers.
When I heard about the tragedy I was watching T.V, and suddenly the regular T.V broadcasts stopped and all the channels were talking about the terrorist attacks.
I think it is a very big disaster for your country
and I know what you are all going through. becasue here in Israel we have terrorist attacks very often, and many people died since the beginning of the Intifada.
In conclusion, I just want to tell you, and the other people that suffered from this disaster, to be strong and have faith!
We all should move on and try to make a better future, and overcome our fears. I feel that we all deserve to live in peace and safety, and of course we should have a good life and be happy.
Yours sincerely,
Nastiya Merman
Dear Friend,
I heard about your tragic event, and I am really so sorry. I live in Israel in a small city named Ariel. In our country there is terror too.
I'm sure you read about it, and see it in the news.
Every day we hear about new terrorist acts that happen in my country. It's shocking to think about so many people that died only because of the hate that Palestinians feel toward us.
I wanted to tell you that I identify with your tragedy and your loss that happened on the 11th of September in the Pentagon, the Twin Towers, and Pennyslvania.
I'll be happy if you write me back.
Asia
Dear American youth
I understand and am aware of the big fear and anger that you all feel. I hope you understand that here in Israel we are living through this horror and sorrow every single day.
I live in Barkan, it is a settlement in the Samaria.
We have a lot of tragic events all around us.
I have a lot of anger and hate for those terrorists.
Last year I was in New York and I saw the Twin Towers, each of them is a very beautiful building. I can't even imagine the fact that they are gone.
We will keep on commemorating this day.
Don't forget that we will always be in your side, just as you in our side, and together we will overcome this great fear.
With a lot of love
Gal Yama
Dear friends,
I'm writing to you now, with mixed feelings… Are you sure your army couldn't have done a better job fighting terrorism? Clearly, it's not all your fault! I grieve for your great loss.
Yet, one must realize that this is not the day of Armageddon or something similar - this is "simply" an extremely tragic day.
Please, don't be offended by what I've written in the beginning of this letter. I'd like you to consider this: If the U.S. government wouldn't have openly revealed such an enmity against terrorist organizations, (As noble a cause as it is!) such acts of terror might have been prevented.
I do hope things will start looking-up for you.
Yours sincerely,
Sergey Perelshteiin

To America and the World
and the individuals who make them,
Sometimes words on a page are not enough…
Words on a page can't convey grieving faces…
Words on a page can't convey sounds of sorrow…
Words on a page can't convey feelings…
Yet, I find myself writing this letter, words on a page, because it is all I can do. Who knows, maybe it's enough; maybe my single letter will encourage an entire nation. But, even if my letter affects a single person, then it has done enough for me.
The events that took place on the 11th September 2001 are almost unimaginable. At first I thought it was a joke, and then the horrible truth struck me. Thousands died, and it only took a day.
The scale of the damage and shock were so great because no one expected it. No one believed that minds as sick as the planners existed, and so it came as a surprise. But like the Phoenix, the United States of America will rise from the ashes of its former self and emerge stronger.
The torch of Democracy, Freedom and Peace still burns…
stronger than ever.

I remember the first time I heard about the attack. It was early afternoon and I jut got back from school and as I turned on the TV set to watch some sports I got a call from my mother saying that I should turn on CNN and tell her what is happening because she keeps hearing bits of information about some attack and can't figure out what happened.
Some people said "now the Americans know what it is like being in fear of terror" and "They deserve what they got because they are supporting the Arabs in Israel". But I think no one deserves that kind of punishment and I wish to express my condolences to all the American people and especially to the men and women who lost friends and family members in that attack.

To the citizens of the U.S.A.
We can understand how you - the American people feel because we have been in this "mess" for so long…. Maybe now after terror has reached America you can understand what we feel and suffer every day of our lives. We know that for you it is a shock to be in this situation. We think that something should be done about the terror problem, and now we can cooperate against the terrorists.
We are sorry for your loss and hope that you will recover from your suffering.

Dear Citizens of the United States,
Hi, my name is Reut and I'm 16 years old.
I'm a resident of Jerusalem, Israel.
I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.
I know it may sound awful, but I can't say that this situation got me upset, because I'm already used to it.
Israel has been inundated with terror attacks for the last 3 years.
We live it every day.
Almost every day, there are people dying.
Moreover, it has become this annoying, hurting routine.
It has got so far that people are getting apathetic, or not totally apathetic, but they are blocking themselves, their feelings, because they can't take it anymore.
So forgive me if I'm not telling you that I've got all upset and started to cry when I saw the twin towers falling down.
It's just this sad reality of waking up almost every morning, and hearing the reporters talking about another terrorist act, other serious injuries, and a lot of dead people.
And you hear them talking, and you see the pictures- people are bleeding, there are bodies all over the place, just lying there, like waiting for someone to come and pick them up.
And after a while, and it's not such a long time, everything gets back to normal, or at least trying to.
And every time you walk down the street, and suddenly you hear a siren, your breath will be taken away, your heart will miss a bit, and then you'll see the ambulance rushing somewhere, and you'll pray that it's just a pregnant woman delivering.
But then you will doubt yourself- do you really want it to be a pregnant woman delivering? Delivering into this terrible world, this awful reality?
So maybe after the U.S.A got hurt by this horrible terror attack, maybe now people will start opening their eyes and doing something about it, because sitting and crying won't help anyone, and we really can't take it anymore.
So forgive me if I'm not telling you that I've got all upset and started to cry when I saw the twin towers falling down.
Yours sincerely,
Reut Mor
11th September, 2002
Dear citizens of the United States,
My name is Sheila Keren; I am a 17 year old teen who lives in the Jordan Valley, Israel.
When I heard about the events of September 11, I was completely shocked! We have terror in Israel but that was completely different.
To see the Twin Towers when approaching New York by airplane was very significant to me - it was a sign that I was almost there ….. Visiting my family. To think that I will never see the towers again makes my stomach swirl.
At first, when the terror attacks on Israel just started I felt awful and I was depressed. But throughout the years I got used to it and of course every time I heard there was an attack - if it was a bus or a restaurant, my heart stopped for just a second and as awful as it sounds - I just got tired of it all.
When the first plane went into the Twin towers, it felt horrible… It was like seeing what has been happening to us in a much larger scale. You could not feel apathetic and block out the feelings of sorrow and hurt. I couldn't believe it. I was so traumatized, I started crying!
Then, the phone rang. It was my sister calling for Connecticut crying on the phone. She felt like the terror was following her (she was there on vacation). It was terrible.
Anyway, I just wanted to express my condolences and say that my heart is with you.
Sheila C. Keren
September 11, 2002
Dear people of America,
After September 11 2001 - the world has changed.
America which was known as the safest land on earth was suddenly faced with a world of terror that it hadn't known from before. For us, two teenagers from the Jordan Valley, Israel - it is not a new situation.
We have been living this terror every single day. We wake up to it, breathe it and go to sleep to it. The horror surrounds us! This situation is something that we have known for a long time and we cannot escape from it.
When we heard about the attack, we were in shock; we didn't realize that something like we experience everyday will attack America too.
We feel very sorry for you because you don't know how to handle it and wish we didn't know either.
We hope that the terror will stop. We must stop it with every means necessary.
Wishing for a better tomorrow,
Ella & Elinor.
Dear Mr. President Mr. George W. Bush,
Shalom,
We - Moriya and Yair, two teenagers from Israel, Yarden High School, in the Jordan Valley, want to tell you that we feel really sad about what happened on September 11 in the U.S.A.
We feel solidarity with you and with your country. We really think that something should be done about these cruel terrorists.
We want to help you in any way that we can to make you feel better. We know what you are going through because like you, we are victims of the world terrorism.
Thanks and goodbye,
Yair and Moriya
11th September, 2002
Dear people of the United States,
Hello our names are Nofar Aviv and Reut Bramly and we want to share our feelings about September 11.
We were in shock when we heard about the disaster; so many people got killed in such a brief moment.
At first, we thought about the great pain that you probably felt and every person in Israel felt sympathy for your pain. Now that we are writing this letter to you, new feelings are coming up. As you know in the past two years Israel is in a constant war against terrorists that live in the heart of our country and can easily come in and kill a lot of innocent people that didn't do anything besides taking a bus. And we didn't even start talking about the killing that goes on every day in the roads, in the streets, in our homes.
So you see, it's quite hard to sympathize with what you have gone trough because you experienced it only once, and we have been living in this disaster for the past two years. Every day, we hear about other people we know that got murdered and we wonder why we are the ones who have to send you a letter?
Yours sincerely,
Nofar & Reut

Dear American citizens,
I don't even know how to start this letter because it is really hard for me, so first of all I send all my consolations to the families that have lost their loved ones.
As a girl who lives in Israel and experience terror all the time I think I can understand you better (as horrible as it sounds, but it's the truth), I too lost people I knew for terror and I can honestly say that I fear for my life every second (I live in a dangerous place).
When I saw it on the TV it seemed so unreal and at first I thought it was some kind of a sick joke, but then, of course, I realized that what I am seeing is real and I felt like my heart stopped beating and I got dizzy. If that is how I felt I can't even start thinking how you felt.
Of course you all should stick together and be as strong as possible, and don't ever give in.
I hope that you will find in my things the consolation and the empathy that I tried to express here, that is the least I could do.
Tamar Heruty.
Dear Mr. President Mr. George W. Bush,
We want to tell you about our feelings after we saw the disaster on September 11 in America.
When we saw the planes crash into the World Trade Center and into the Pentagon, we thought it was a nightmare, and we just wanted to wake up.
Here in Israel we have been living in fear for a long time, and we want to tell you that we understand your anger and your needs for revenge. In this war there are no compromises. The terror must be defeated for a better world.
Your war is our war; we will stand together against all the people whose goal is only to destroy our great world.
God bless America and Israel.
Haim Yaniv, Sharon Goldbach & Talia Madmon.
Ma'ale Ephraim, Jordan Valley,

Dear Americans!
We want to share with you our feelings about the attack on the USA, of the Al-Qaidah!
We want to give you our support and we want you to know that we are "on your side"!
We cannot believe that this has happened! That changed the Americans, and that made you feel like we feel when we are getting hurt from terror and the Arabs attacks!
We visited in the USA last month and we saw a big difference!
Now there's more security every place, people are more suspicious, and the atmosphere is tense.
We were afraid to fly to the USA! But we really wanted to see everything from close!
We are supporting your policy and your attack on the terror of Afghanistan!
We hope that you'll find Ben-laden and then the terror won't control the world!
Yours sincerely,
Noa, Liraz, Amitai & Hila!
Dear teenager,
How are you?
I am writing to you about the 11th of September last year.
As a person who lives in Israel and breathes this reality, I suppose I can imagine what you all have been through. I live in a Moshav in the Jordan Valley and every few days we have a pack of terrorists that try to kill men in the Moshav and shoot at the roads that we drive in every day!
I feel deep sorrow for your tragedy and I hope you have no relative who was a victim of the attack!
Agmon

Dear citizens of the U.S.,
Now that terrorism has reached the U.S.A., it has become international and you can finally understand the way we feel here, in the middle East.
We know how it is to be scared and threatened by the Arabian terror. The only comfort from this story is the fact that you finally support the Israeli side.
In the last two years the Arabs hit us again and again.
Try to imagine how it is to fear the terror all the time, and change your life because of it, not to drive on dangerous roads, not to go to crowded places and worry about your family and friends.
In conclusion, we are sorry for your loss. We hope that the war against terror will continue and we will not rest until the terror will be terminated!!!
Wishing for a better tomorrow…
Rona L. & Tamar H.
For the teenagers in the U.S.,
We are really sorry about the September 11 attack.
We hope that now you understand what we have been going through every single day in Israel. Although the numbers of victims was huge, in Israel we live in a daily fear of terror.
Our social lives became a nightmare and the childhood isn't the same at all. Mothers are afraid to send their children to buy groceries in the nearby super market.
We wish you will understand and support us by letting us free hand in the security situation and encourage our way and privilege on the international stages.
"If your heart tells you it can be done - be invincible".
Erez & Evyatar
To the citizens of the U.S.A.,
One year later and the world will never be the same again.
In that terrible day, a lot of innocent people lost their lives just because of a group of terrorists - crazy people that believe in killing people who don't live the way they want them to live.
The Israeli nation understands you so much. It is hard to say, but terrorism has become an integral part of our lives.
We are crying with you, with all the families who lost their loved ones, and we are still shocked, just like a year before.
We are, the Israelis who would like to wish all the American citizens a better year than the one that goes…
Be strong, don't lose your faith, and don't let terrorism brake you down….
Best wishes,
Nitzan and Herut

Dear families,
We want to tell you we understand your pain. We were in shock when we heard about the Twin towers crash, and all we could think of was that this was a thing that should not have happened. Only crazy people would do something like this, only people that intend to hurt and make people suffer - the terrorists.
We wish that soon there will be peace in our world … and until then…… be strong!
Hila Tzumi, Yoni Messica & Bat-El Hodis
Dear citizens,
In this Memorial Day, you are remembering the victims of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and also the attack on the Pentagon.
This terrorist attack changed everything, it changed the world and it changed America. The people now are not the same; this act of terror has made you think that it it happened in New York, it could happen anywhere.
N.Y. is the most known city in the world, it is a symbol, a sign of pride. Knowing that you are living in the most powerful country in the world gave you the feeling of security that nothing will happen to you, but you were wrong and now this resulted in an attack on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center.
Now, you must think forward but shouldn't forget the meaning of this day and the victims. The people in America are now feeling that they are not living in the most secure country in the world, you are thinking as we do.
You now feel the same feeling that we feel everyday, the feeling that you got to think twice before you leave your house, the feeling that you must know where every member of your family is every time there is a terror attack.
But this the most horrible terrorist attack that ever happened - thousands died!
Now the world is not the same, it is in a process, a process that wants to destroy terror but the thing that annoys me the most is that the world is dealing with this now - after the attack and not before.
Gabi & Erez
I can feel your pain because we feel it every day and every second day.
This monstrous terrorist attacked you and now you feel what we have been feeling for the last two years and more.
I think its time we work together and hit them in the most painful place and eliminate their organizations.
I can say these things because I live in Israel very near to the dangerous places in our country and there is nothing that I hate more than these Arab terrorists.
Amnon & Yossi - High school students from ISRAEL
To The American People
We feel sorry for what happened to you and we understand your pain. We live in Israel and we know how you feel because we deal with the terror every day.
We know the feeling, how it is to lose someone close and to continue living in fear every day. The most terrible feeling is to go out without knowing if you ever come back…..
We want to tell you to be strong and not surrend to the terror! Please don't let the terror win us!
We really believe that someday it will be over and the world will become a better place to live in, with peace and security.
We wish you all the best and be strong!
Adva, Hila & Eden High school students from ISRAEL
One year after September the 11th 2001, we remember your tragedy and feel sorry for you. This date will always be remembered as the day that the U.S.A. changed.
We share your pain and loss and hope that there will be no more terror attacks against innocent and na?ve people, in the future forever, all over the world.
The damage and destruction was tremendous and I was shocked. This terror attack taught us that these people who are members of the el-kaeida are inhuman, that their aim is to hurt, injure and kill people cruelly all over the world, especially Americans and Jews.

Dear President Bush,
My name is Avigail Wides.
I live in Israel. Even though I'm only twelve years old I was also traumatized to hear about September 11th terror attacks. I know a lot of people that have been somehow connected to the attacks. In Israel we know how important it is.to fight against terror. We really support what you are doing to help.
Respectfully,
Avigail Wides.

We, students of The Edward and Anna Mitchell Center for Hi-Tech and Sciences. (Lod Comprehensive High School for Sciences), express our solidarity with the American nation on this day of deep sorrow and grief.
The victims of September 11 will always live in the hearts of humanity.
Long live peace and democracy!
The following are the letters written by our students and sent to the White House on September 11th.
Lod Comprehensive High School for Sciences Students from Israel
Express Their Solidarity With the American Nation on This Day of Grief and Sorrow
Dear American Nation,
Terror has become mankind's greatest enemy. It stands against its greatest values. Terror means hurting innocent people, women and children, citizens and families in order to achieve a certain goal. But nothing can be truly achieved by means of violence. Every four year old should know that.
In the past year, terror has become both worldwide and common, and so has our fear of it. Since the eleventh of last September, and in some places, even before that, no one has felt the same. What kind of world is this, where people can't feel secure in their own homes, cities and countries? It's not the world we want our children to inherit.
Therefore, we must not give in, nor give up. We must stand together against terrorism, first by not giving in to the demands of terrorists and then by standing against them and fighting until the existence of terror is a distant memory. Yet we should not forget what it is we're fighting for - peace, justice, security and freedom. We should listen to our enemies and compromise, but not accept their way.
We truly hope things will get better, and that our children will never have to fear death, terror or war. We hope peace will arrive soon, because the time for it has come.
Yours truly,
Shachaf Baz and Roni Nir
Dear President,
As Israeli teenagers, we would like to send our deepest sympathy for the American nation, upon the tragedy of September 11th. We would like to extend our support to all the families who have lost their loved ones in the terror attacks. Our greatest wish is that this disaster could have somehow been avoided. At times like this, all we can do is stand together, all of us, and pray for peace.
With great respect and sympathy,
Yaara Manor and Sharin Regev
Dear Mr. Bush,
I wish to express my sorrow in the wake of the terrible tragedy that your country has suffered in the morning of September 11th.
I strongly believe that the people responsible for this act of terrorism, as well as anyone who helped them in any way, should be brought to justice. I believe, no, know that most of the people in the world want peace and will be willing to sit down and negotiate in order to achieve this goal. However, those who only wish to inflict suffering and pain upon others in the name of religion or culture should be dealt with, because they have no right to do such horrible deeds.
This is why I believe that the nations of the world should unite and fight to demolish all terrorist organizations, each within its own borders.
Faithfully yours,
Roey Zaitlin
Dear Mr. President,
I am sending you my empathy and understanding. I believe that together, the people of the world can fight terror, and together we can win this war. The first step is standing united.
Shalom, Michal Sadeh
Dear Mr. President,
They say that in destruction lies the beginning of something new. Every cloud has a silver lining, they say. But I cannot help asking, what good can be found in the random, sudden death of so many people. My answer is, none. It doesn't matter how many victims there are, because each is important, and each face conceals a lifetime of joy, sorrow and anger. It is not just the events of September 11th. I am also referring to the repeated attacks in Israel, small as insignificant as they may seem next to the tragedy your country experienced, but I believe they are essentially the same. I believe that terror attacks should encourage the whole world to unite behind the idea of fighting back. There can be no forgiveness for terror. He who killed many should pay. I say that in destruction does not lie the beginning of something new, but the beginning of something useful could lie there. It depends on the lessons we choose to learn, the action we choose to take.
Sincerely, Gili Kilon
Dear Mr. President,
I am a high school student from Israel. When I first heard the news of the September 11th tragedy, I was deeply shocked that such terrible things could happen to the United States of America. Then, I started thinking about the victims, about their families and friends, and I understood how truly horrific the situation was. I felt compassion and sorrow. Now I know that freedom and peace, though seemingly basic goals, are extremely difficult to achieve. I hope that one day we can reach this ideal state of happiness, even if that day is far away.
Sincerely, Marina Berlin
Dear Mr. Bush,
We, as Israeli students, want to express our solidarity with the
United States of America and its people, who have lost loved ones in the terrible tragedy of September 11th. We think that we, perhaps better than anyone else, can understand how you all feel. After all, we are forced to deal with terror on a daily basis.
Still, the events of the 11th are almost impossible to grasp. Those events are not likely to ever be forgotten. All we can do is extend our sympathy and offer our prayers.
Sincerely yours, Bella and Lucy
Dear President,
Now, a year has passed.
Time flew by so quickly, so fast.
A movie turned into reality.
With this I send my sympathy.
We are all so sorry,
we are all sad,
we're also angry,
we're also mad.
But we look forward with hope,
Try to understand, try to cope.
Yotam Sturlezi
Dear President,
I am a 17- year- old student from Israel and I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to all who have lost loved ones in this terrible tragedy. I know that it was hard for your nation but that is what we have been suffering for years, and it's already
become a routine for us. So the only thing that I can tell you is to go on and not be afraid, because life goes on. Terror is very common around us. Every day many people die as a result of violence in the hands of terrorists. In my opinion, it is very wrong
that in our era people are killing other people for reasons like money, jealousy and religion. We live a modern life, but we keep on acting like we've been acting for centuries. I strongly believe that people who are violent to others are people who have
nothing to lose, and they want the world to remember them. I feel very sorry for the victims of the eleventh of September and deeply sympathize.
Katy Reznik
Dear President,
I know that the terrible event of September eleventh has caused much sorrow and pain. I think this event caused a loss of innocence. Many people faced terror for the very first time. Their reality of security, harmony, peace and happiness has been changed. The American nation has experienced what the Israeli nation constantly suffers from. I know how it feels to lose a loved one. I lost my father as a result of a heart attack, and a friend who had died after a terrorist attack near a night club. But I know that all of those people didn't die in vain , they've brought us all together. We, the Israeli youth extend our deepest sympathy to all who have lost loved ones in this terrible tragedy. Our prayers are with you, stay strong .The only thing you should be afraid of is fear itself.
Sincerely yours, Vlada Evdokimchik
Dear President,
I extend my deepest sympathy to all who have lost their loved ones in the eleventh of September tragedy. I believe that our nation can identify with your pain and understand it. We live our every day lives with fears and sorrow caused by terrorism. I truly believe that only if the whole world would gather against the phenomenon, it will be able to stop the nightmare of terrorism. I wish that all of us would learn a lesson as a result of this event. I hope that we would know how to protect ourselves from terrorism. The September eleventh will never be forgotten!
Sincerely yours, Rita Yusupov
Dear President,
My name is Omri Kantor and I am a citizen of Israel. I would like to share with you a few thoughts and feelings that I have. In my whole life (for sixteen years), I cannot remember such a sad and horrible terrorism attack. In our country, as you probably know, there are many terrorist attacks in buses, malls, etc. I feel very sorry for you and sympathize, and I'm sure that with all the support and power you will be able to restore the situation, as well as rebuild those two buildings I hope everything will be alright again.
Omri Kantor
Dear President,
I'm a 17-old Israeli and I live in Beer Yaakov, Israel. Because today is September 11, I think this is the right time to tell you and your people how my friends and I felt about the pain caused to your nation by the terror attack which took thousands of innocent lives and destroyed the World Trade Center a year ago. We knew how it felt when your country was under terror attacks taking away your beloved ones, leaving deep grief and sorrow in hearts. I hope for better days to come, when there will no terror threats and for peace all over the world.
Sincerely yours, Elran Baron
Dear President,
We want to share with the American nation our sorrow on this
Memorial Day. It's hard to believe that on an ordinary day, thousands of people were suddenly gone. It's a very tragic event for everyone in the world and especially for us, the Israeli people who identify with your pain and suffering. They were heroes, they
didn't die in vain, they died for an important cause: out of the nightmare a dream of the united nation was born.
Sincerely yours,
Lina and Miri ,Israeli citizens who share your sorrow and grief
Dear President,
Let me express my solidarity with the grieving American nation. We understand how you feel at this hour of sorrow and pain for those who will never come back, five thousand heroes You can fight many things and many wars but it will be never any closer to the war against terror, and that is because terror has no rules, since its main target is to kill and to cause as much damage as possible. There will always be terror and it can never be destroyed, but it can be significantly decreased. The only way we can do it is by
combining forces and leading the whole civilized world against those primitive human beings whose killing machines are aimed against humanity. Let's unite our forces in the war against terror.
Sincerely yours, Chen Karu
Dear President,
Today is September 11th, one year after. One year after four airplanes were hijacked. One year after the Pentagon was almost destroyed One year after many people were looking for their loved ones. One year after more than 3,000 people died. One year after we all were in shock and cried. One year after we first faced the new reality. From now and on, nothing will be the same, We'll never see those who died. We'll never feel safe on airplanes. We'll forever live in fear that anytime, everything can happen. I'm not talking about the US only, I'm talking about Israel and other countries, about the world's terror, about that every little thing which happens we first check whether it was a terror attack. We are not sure, we are not safe any more.
Shiran Halawi
Dear President,
We are sending you this letter because we want to express our solidarity and identify with your nation on this grieving day. A year before, we all saw live pictures and movies of the horrible things that happened. We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw the plane crash into the first building, it was like it was taken out of a horror movie wasn't real. We share your grief, and pain, and sorrow, and we're now lighting the candle for
the thousands of victims. From now things will never be the same again. We all should think about how to prevent it from happening again. GOD SAVE AMERICA !
Sincerely yours, Liran Joseph and Omri Yannai
Dear President,
As Israeli citizens we know the feeling of being attacked by terror and losing friends and family members. We feel sorry for the whole American nation which lost many of its heroes . We hope that the world will know better days.
Sincerely yours, Ohad Shifman and Yotam Mor
Dear Mr.President,
We identify completely with your tragedy.
We ourselves live through horrible terrorist actions on a daily basis and would like greatly to put an end to it. After what happened on September 11th the whole world understood that terrorist actions are inhumane and only cause sorrow and pain, such as killing 3000 innocent people without mercy. We are very sorry about the people who lost their lives and we will always respect this day and what it represents. Even here in Israel, half way around the world, the pain of the awesome loss is felt and will never be forgotten. Dear Mr. President, Terror is always a form of violence used for political purposes. In today's world we can see many examples of terrorism: Shooting and bombing in public places, especially in Israel. The most awful act of terror is the crashing of the airplanes into the twin towers in New York city, USA. This act of terror caused many deaths and damage, and horrified many people all over the world. In my opinion, world terrorism is something that is familiar to every nation in every country. This is the most burning problem today, and I think that political leaders should fight together against terror. I would like to see more cooperation between the nations. When we, peaceful people, win the war against terror, we will have more chances to build strong and peaceful relations between the countries. In my opinion, beating the terror, there will be no more obstacles on the way to world peace.
Sincerely yours, Yevgeny Ksendzhinsky
Dear Mr. President,
Exactly one year ago, the biggest terror act had occurred. Airplanes crashed into the world trade center towers and killed and injured more than 3000 people. One year had passed since then and some people still feel shocked and horrified by those events. This act of terror has changed the face of the earth. It made the whole world realize what terror is really about and how horrible and inhumane it is. Terror organizations managed to hurt the strongest and the biggest nation in the world. Suddenly we realized that there is no such thing as a safe place, even not America. After that horrible day, America announced war against all terror organizations. Despite that, I still believe that nothing has really changed and a terrible act of terror like this could happen again anywhere. I would like to add that we all here in Israel sympathize greatly with the families of the victims. As we too suffer greatly from terror acts in our small country we can truly feel your pain. I hope that soon terror will be defeated and we will all live together in peace .
Sincerely yours, Esty Manshirov
Dear Mr. President,
We are two students from Israel and we identify with the events of last years tragic day the 11th of September. We remember every second of that day, the horror pictures will be engraved in our minds forever. The images of people trying to rescue themselves and their beloved ones made us realize how inexcusable the awful terror act was. It is only natural the we, as people who suffer of terror daily, will feel especially close to the aching American nation at a time like this. We live in constant fear ever since it happened because it made us realize that there is no safe place in the world. We can only imagine how the families of the victims must feel and we would like them to know that they are in our prayers. The desire for world peace is still burning among us and we will never stop fighting for a safe, loving world. We hope that the American people will hold on to their faith.
Truly yours, Sarili Hakim and Yula Vinogradov
Dear Mr. President,
The war against terror became a daily struggle to save many innocent lives. Many peoples die every day in the worldwide war that strikes everywhere. Terror groups and organizations believe that only through violence and death they will be heard. Their awful inhumane actions have no justification and only cause suffering and pain. What happened has affected so many lives around the world and has brought both our nations together. I sincerely believe that it should be the main priority of the world today to eliminate terror. We all desire peace and I believe that only together, by sharing our efforts we can win and make our world a better place to live in.
Sincerely yours, Marina Zaslavsky
Dear Mr. President,
On September 11th the wide world stood amazed to what happened to your nation. It's a disaster not only to your country but to all humankind and peace lovers in particular. Be strong with your war against terrorism.
Sincerely yours, Noa Shossayov
Dear President of the United States,
Today, exactly one year ago, the crash of the World Trade Center buildings shocked the world. It's difficult to express our sorrow in times like this, but still, we'd like to try. When we heard about the terrible destruction, we were shocked and surprised, but mostly, we couldn't believe that the terrible nightmare we saw on TV was true. The reason we're writing this letter is to express our compassion towards broken families and the whole American nation. In Israel, we're suffering a lot of terror attacks, so we can identify with what happened in the United States, we can understand the pain of your nation and of the rest of the world.
It's difficult to say what's right and what's wrong in a time like this, but still, we would like to express our thoughts about the way the nation should act like. We don't believe that stopping completely your normal way of life is the smartest thing to do either, since then, terrorists would achieve their goal, forcing us to life in fear. We think that keeping the normal order of your life is the most important thing you can do in order to return the normal status quo.
God Bless America!
Tal Wiener and Yael Ophir
Dear President,
Today, after a year has passed since the terrible attack on the WTC and on the Pentagon, our feelings have become stronger.
When it happened, we're sitting in front of TV and couldn't believe that such a thing could happen in America: we saw all the scared people, policemen and firefighters trying to save people. Then, we still didn't realize what had actually happened. Today, as we see all the pictures and programs on TV, we realize how horrible the disaster was. We see all the crying people that lost their dears and understand how hard it's to get over this tragedy. Then, there's our Israeli reality. In Israel, as you know, there have been too many terror attacks and many people died. We realize that it's our common cause to struggle terror .
In conclusion, we would like to say that we don't know if you're going to read this letter personally, but we know that you're from Texas and cowboys always say, "No matter who falls first from the horse, it's important who gets back on it" So, we hope you'll be strong there in America and fight terror to the end.
Best wishes, Ofir Alon and Eli Flishtinsky
Dear President,
Without our notice, a whole year has passed. It seems like the events of September 11th took place only yesterday, but time has not made things vanish. Things have only become worse. The whole world, especially Israel, has to cope with the consequences and
implications of terror attacks. Here in Israel, terror has become a matter of daily routine almost every day people are killed by terrorists, leaving behind family and friends. The fear of leaving home to public places only gets worse as time passes. We must all agree that hoping and waiting will not bring peace. I believe the power is in the hands of our leaders. I also believe that expressions such as we must fight terror or the war against terror will not make things better. War will not solve our problems.
More people dead, more families and friends left behind, more damage and destruction, which will in turn probably lead to more terror attacks all around the world. I call each of us, ordinary people and leaders alike, to consider the implications of our actions, beyond what is immediately obvious, and to think twice before acting. We should not be brash. Many lives will be saved.
Sincerely yours, Adi Sharoni
Dear President,
One year from the American disaster had already passed. Many people in U.S.A are still suffering from the death of their friends and families. That's why we, Israel's teenagers, want to express our solidarity with your nation's pain. As you know, our country (Israel), unfortunately, has experienced horrible moments and tragedies. Also we suffer from terrorist acts almost day. That's why we are maybe the only country that can really identify with your people. Despite the dramatic things, your country will just get stronger and more united than ever. We hope that things will get better. Fight for the safeness of your country.
Sincerely yours, Inna Gershberg, Inna Achmetzianov and
Shoshana Holdarov
I think terror is terrible. I am against all kinds of terror attacks or activities. Here in Israel we suffer from terror attacks almost every day and I feel sorry for all the people who have been killed and wounded. I just hope that the USA and Europe understand that terror is bad, before something bad happens again. Hoping for better days.
Yakov Shalom Grade 11 Israel
Exactly one year passed since the unbelievable attack by Osama's group of terror. When I try to think if something has changed I realize that the entire world has been changed. It has started to look like one big war of the Moslems against the free world. In this war there will be no winners but rather who will lose more and who will lose less. The US army should do all it can to prevent more situations like that of September 11th. In our country we have a lot of terror attacks almost each day. Our army does all it can to prevent them, with the most sophisticated equipment in the world. All over the world millions of people are trying to prevent the terrors attacks, will it ever stop? I think that it will stop when all the terrorist in the world realize that terror doesn't give them anything.
Oshri Taninam and Benny Chazon
Terror", terrible word, isn't it? You are asking for my opinion, and I have so many feelings that I don't know how to describe them all. All over the world people are suffering because of terror.
Last year, American people felt this "experience" on a big scale, for the first time they saw what it mean to leave under the fire of terror. They saw it once but we live like this every minute, every day. Terror is hard on all of us. Two of my friends were killed by terrorists. One of them was exploded in Jerusalem a year ago. The other was shot by terrorist near Gaza, last fall. They were wonderful people whose lives were tragically cut short. I'm scared like everybody in this country, but I don't want to give up. I'm not a brave person and I want to continue on with my life. The politicians in this world must stop thinking about the selves and start thinking about us, simple people who don't have bodyguards and who are exposed to terrorism.
Bar Atractzi
After a year of total shock in the United States, terror and the support of terror is still high in the circle of the Muslim world leaders. Israel is the pioneer in the mortal fight against terror. Since 1948, when Israel received its independence, until now, 2002, the IDF (Israel Defense Force) has fought terror on the borders of Israel, in the Middle East and anywhere else in the world when required. We, the citizens of Israel, support the brave war of the USA forces against terror in the world.
Chen Gruber
September 11th, this day will be remembered for a long time as the day when close to 4000 innocent souls were lost by bloody terrorists. September 11th is one of the most shocking days in American history and the world's history. Terrorism isn't a new thing. It has always been in existence, the world has never conquered it, and therefore it has increased and regained strength throughout the years. In order to defeat the world's terrorism, all the countries have to unite powers because the war against terrorism must be eradicated. Only then will our desire for peace come true.
Valery Smeklin
In my opinion, every country should live in peace with its neighboring countries. In our country people want peace, but the government can't achieve it. However, one thing I know is true: unless the terror stops, peace can't be achieved. The worst terror attack that I know is last year's terror attack on the World Trade Center in New York. This terrible attack shows that terror has no limits, and it can happen everywhere and anytime. The only way to stop this terror is by achieving peace.
Irit Briskin
In my opinion, terror must be stopped in anyway possible. Too many people are dying from terror. I can't go anywhere because I'm scared that a terrorist attack will happen.
I hope that terror will finish quickly as possible.
Gili Brown
When the Twin Towers went down I was at home with my sister. We opened our photo album from our trip to New York. I saw this one picture of me standing in front of the Towers. I could not believe that this great, amazing building was now gone!
New Yorkers were caught off guard. No one is ever on guard for such an evil attack. The thing that intrigues me the most is how people get up the next morning, drink coffee and go to work… life just goes on. But New York will never be the same. We will always remember the firemen, paramedics and policemen who died there. They are the heroes that we will never forget. They had friends, family, hobbies just like all of us… they are all of us.
Shiran Elimelech
Every day we here in Israel have to deal with terror. So many families have been ruined because of the many kinds of terror. Many Israelis walk around with "holes" in their hearts where a loved one used to be. Now these holes are only filled with memories. I think that we can easily take part in the American's grief and longing because we know first hand how hard it is to lose something and someone you love. Despite all this pain, I think we are doing a good job because we don't let fear rule us.
Tal Chen
Terror in Israel is very common. Every day in different places there is an act of terror.
I think we should always be alert but continue our lives as usual.
Moshe Ovadia
As I write, I am watching a documentary on the Twin Towers. I can feel my eyes filling up with tears. I hope that someone will finally find the solution to terror and war. Until then I will have to find the strength within to carry on with this sadness.
Oded Nair
In my opinion terror is the instinct to do evil. It is the ugly face of humanity. Once we used to mention every crisis in school and every crisis was like the end of the world. Now terror is something we know we have to live with. Sure we feel sad but we go on with our day. The Americans think we are too scared to go out but we still go to coffee shops and restaurants. Yes, it is painful but we must continue our normal lives. And so must they. The Arabs use terror to beat us and to beat democracy. We will not let that happen. I believe that American's war on terrorism will take a long time but it will eventually be beaten.
Carmit Barak
Is there any other county in the world more afflicted by terrorism than Israel? There is no month that goes by without some sort of attack. The Americans have always tried to help but I think now they realize how we must be feeling every day. Let us hope that President Bush succeeds with his plans to wipe out terror.
Kobi Michaeli
Exactly today, on September 11th a terrible terrorist attack took place in New York City. The whole world was shocked. No one had seen it coming and no one had ever seen an attack of this magnitude. We Israelis pray to live with our families in peace and we hope that maybe one day the terror in our county and in the whole world will stop.
Einav Dagaue
I know the feeling of waking up in the morning and hearing about another family that has been destroyed. The pictures of blood on the sidewalks, the face of a mother who has lost her child or the look of a man who has lost his entire family. These terrible experiences will stay with me forever. We must continue to live but we will never forget. The war on terrorism in my opinion is progressing very slowly, but I trust the Americans, the Israelis and the rest of the anti-terror coalition to do everything they can so that we can live together in peace.
Tzlil Mazliah
My niece Roni is only two- and- a-half- years old. She has already been the victim of terror. While buying ice cream for Roni, my sister-in-law and Roni were the victims of a bomb blast. Roni lay in intensive care for weeks and my sister-in-law may never get the use of her hand back. I want to tell the American people how much I know their pain. I think that when it happens to you, you can understand the pain. Please, President Bush, please help us bring peace to the world. For you, for me, for the American and Israeli peoples and for Roni.
Lee Hudesman
In my opinion, terror is a coward's way to achieve one's goals. The best way to deal with violence is to avoid it. Hence, there is only one way to handle the situation and that way is the negotiation table. As I see it PEACE is the ultimate choice to make.

Dear President Bush,
I am a 15-year-old American-Israeli. I moved here, to
Israel, five years ago, when everything was perfect.
I would like to tell you what happened in my class on
February 18th, 2002. I was in ninth grade, as you may have guessed, in a
religious girls' school near Ben Gurion Airport called Tzfira. Our
principal had been begging us to decorate our bare walls and just a few
weeks before, we had started. That Monday, a few of my classmates had an
idea for the decoration of one wall. They covered it with white paper,
then taped detailed pictures from newspapers of the latest terror
attacks onto it. Then they dipped their hands in red paint and made
"bloody" handprints all over it. And to finish it off, and this is the
worst part- they wrote sayings on the wall. Things like "No Arabs- no
attacks!" and, absolutely worst of all, smack in the middle of
everything- "Death to Arabs".
Doesn't that sound familiar in some way? This hatred, this
prejudice? I myself found a frightening resemblance to. well, the Arabs.
This is what they teach their children. "Death to Jews", "Death to
Arabs"- it's all the same. Now our class may have ripped down this
horrible display of hurt and hatred, but the feelings are still there.
The Israeli children hate Arabs, because Arabs are distructive. The
Palestinian children hate Jews (Israelis, it's all the same to them),
because the Koran says to. Or because Arafat says to, don't know which.
The point is- it's a vicious cycle. They hate us so we hate them even
more, so they hate us even more, so we hate them even more- it never
stops, like a swinging pendulum. And like a pendulum, someone needed to
start it.
Maybe we're all really the same, the Jews and the Arabs-
both of us learn to hate freely, and it's passed on from generation to
generation. That's why neither is winning here.
I think that when a nation truly learns to love, not to
hate; when it teaches its children not to be like your enemies, not to
sink to their level; when it truly, truly, truly wants peace, and none
of us really do; that nation will prevail.
Please. Let us be the nation. America and Israel. Stop
trying to take all sides at once. A little modesty. A little compassion.
When a country gets too proud, it will fall. 9/11 was your wake-up call,
but you've already begun to forget. Please teach your nation not to hate
because of what someone was born to be. Not to hate because of what they
heard on television. Teach your nation to give, give, give and to love
just because we are all human, because we were all brought into this
world only to make it better.
Thank you for your attention and your support for Israel.
It's been a long time since a president actually stepped back and looked
at the whole picture, managing to distinguish between true desire for
freedom and a simple prejudice against the Jewish or Israeli people.
Thank God none of the people I know personally have been killed, but we
have all been affected- a friend's friend's mother, a classmate's
friend's brother, an explosion two minutes away from a friend. We're
holding on for dear life, waiting for war or for peace, for justice or
injustice. We know that peace won't come with the wave of a wand, but
with God's and your help, perhaps it can be sooner than we are
expecting.
Good luck,
Daniella N. Shames, Rehovot, Israel
Sadly I've had to live with terror since I can remember, as every
Israeli child has. In my opinion terror is a horrible destructive thing that
just hurts the innocent and doesn't help or solve any problems, but makes
people more hurt and angry.
I think it's a good thing that people are starting to acknowledge that
there is a need to fight terror. Since September 11 a real war on terror has
started. Hopefully it will help in the future and maybe even reduce, if
not stop, terror.
All we can hope for that in the next few years we can find a way to make
peace.
Sincerely,
Menucha Susswein

Dear President Bush,
9/11/01 was a terrible day for all Americans. It was probably a
terrible day for most Israelis too. Everyone was shocked. It was just like when
there's a terror attack here, in Israel, except that September 11th was
much, much... bigger and, somehow, more terrible. I mean, everyone
always thinks that Israel is a dangerous place but America is supposed to be
big and strong and nothing like this is ever supposed to happen. All
Americans, I'm sure, had a big shock and maybe they realized that terror and terror
attacks are something that can happen to them too. Teenagers in Israel
have felt frightened and unsure since the terror attacks begun. All of us
have to deal with these feelings now, Americans and Israelis. Our situation
here, in Israel, is more complex I think, than America's. We are fighting for
peace while America was attacked for no apparent reason.
As an American citizen living in Israel I appreciate your support. May
G-D grant us all strength, and bless us with peace.

Dear Americans,
After the terrible 11th of September attack on the twin towers and the
pentagon in which many American citizens found their death we must not
submit to the terror. The terrorists may think that fighting is the way
to solve problems. Although they think the terror will weaken us up and
ruin our lives, the exact opposite is right, it makes us stronger and
bigger believers in the good that will come after the bad. The state in
which America is in now is very similar to Israel's state since it's
existence. Our enemies try and make our lives miserable by killing
innocent citizens in order to get their desire come true. Instead of
solving problems like human beings, by using agreements, they fight and
believe that physical fighting is the solution.
At first, when I heard about the attack at my friend's house, we
turned on the television and watched the broadcasting, the reporters
were saying that the attack was done by Arafat's order but soon after it
turned out to be wrong. Everyone's reactions were anger and fright of
what will come next. Israel was supporting America just like they
support us. We are used to this situation and have terror attacks as
part of our daily routine. In school, when we hear about an attack it is
regular news and you can sometimes hear people saying things like:
"Again?" and "another one?". I think that American culture should change
and have a generous memory of the people who paid with their lives and
that this attack would be mentioned in every political event, reminding
the arabs that terror will not change the world.
America is now less vulnerable because of the experience that they
had last year and because of the knowledge that anything can happen to
everyone, even to one of the most independent countries in the world.
Imagination can turn to reality in just a moment and war can turn into
peace if everyone would just have the patience and everyone would be
willing to tolerate the other.

To You, the American Student,
I'm an Israeli student, about your age. We are probably different from each other, but there is one thing we have in common - we both want peace.
It hasn't been a year of peace in either the USA or Israel. Soldiers in Israel are fighting during these moments to stop terrorists and terrorism. I can be sure that across the Atlantic Ocean the situation is the same. This war has prices, horrible prices - Soldiers willing to die for what they believe in. They give their lives so we could live safely. When will this all end? When will the soldiers return home without worrying they won't be at the right place when needed? When will there be peace? Only G-d knows the answer.
But until that happens, we can help cutting the very roots of terrorism: Destroy the hatred that blinds people and drives a suicide bomber to kill. We can start a change! Be nice to your friends, and open minded to those you don't know. These little acts can, and will, make a change.
Sincerely Yours,
Yael Himmel, Israel.

Dear American friends,
We are sorry about what happened in your country on 9/11 last year. We
understand your pain because we, too, have terror in Israel.
We need to remember the many people who died. We are talking about this in
class and on the news. We sympathize with the American people. If we do not
destroy terror, this can happen again.
We are supporting you in your war against terror all the time, and hope for
peace.

Hi,
My name is Amir. I am in the 10th grade in Ma'ale-Habsor regional school in Israel. I live in a Kibbutz and I like to play basketball, soccer and tennis.
Tomorrow is the Sept.11. Here, in Israel, we can understand your feelings about it because we suffer for a long time of terror.
I would like to know what changed since Sept. 11 in the USA and whether it had any effect on the teenagers in America.
Here, in Israel, we have a lot of troubles because of the Palestinian terror. It is frightening to go by buses because the terrorists put bombs in the buses or bomb themselves inside the bus. Every couple of weeks it happens.
In addition, it is dangerous to go out to crowded places - because of the same reason. Lately all restaurants in Israel put guards in the entrance. They are checking the bags of the people who come in, trying to prevent terrorist from getting inside.
Inside the kibbutz it is safe, not like in Tel-Aviv and other cities.
My Kibbutz is just 6 kilometers far from Gaza. We sometimes hear the shootings, the helicopters and the planes from Gaza. It is not a good feeling.
It is now "Rosh-Hashna" (The beginning of the new Jewish year). We always make wishes for the new year, and I wish and hope the two nations - the Palestinians and the Israelies, will go again to the way of peace. This situation caused and causes the two nations a lot of suffering. It is time to stop it.
I also hope the terror will stop (or will be stopped..) in the USA and all over the world. I hope that you too, in the USA will be safe without the threat of terror.
Sincerely,
Amir
Dear Buddy
This letter is being written to you by me a young Israeli girl living on the edge of the Gaze strip.
From a teenager how has lived all their life exposed to violence. I send this letter to you knowing how you may feel after the terrible events that have happened in your country over the past year.
There is not much to be said at times like this except that one day we hope to see an end to all wars.
I truly believe that violence is not the way to peace, and I hope that one day when we get there we will remember those who have died along the way and know that they did not die in vain.
Yours sincerely

I want to say to you:
We in Israel live in terror from terrorist attacks day by day. We understand
the anger and the lack of comprehension towards those who choose to fight
their battle by murdering innocent people. I understand the feeling when the
world becomes a dangerous place. I want to believe in peace, but lately I
can’t. I want to ask you something: do you think that America has learned
anything from the murder of almost – 3,000 innocent people ???
Yours,

Dear 10 grader,
My name is Gil, I’m learning in "Ma'ale Habsor" regional school in Israel.
I know that before a year ago, was the most terrible terrorism action in the
world!!!
What I can say is that I really understand you and that is because we’re
living the last year in the same feeling.
I live in a kibbutz that is very close to terrorism action
places.
Last Friday my parents went away...
I stayed with my little brothers at home, at the time, through on the roads
oursecurity car and shouted all over: "everybody-stay in the houses, close the
lights and lock the doors" this kind of things is very scary, and its
happening at least once a week!
So what that I’m trying to say is,
That we, here in Israel, feel just the same.
I realize what are you going through today!
I was glad to share it with you.
Sincerely,
Gil.
Hello,
My name is Natasha and I am in the 10th grade in Maale Habsor regional
school in Israel.
Today is Sept. 11 and I identify with you because we in Israel go through it
every day.
Here in Israel the terror effects our life because we are afraid to go in
busses, to travel and to go out.
I live in a Kibbutz that is 6 kilometers from Gaza.
All the time I hear bombs exploding, planes and tanks.
I think the solution for the Palestinians terror is peace because to fight
all the time is just make a war.
In the end I want to wish you good year.
Yours,
Natasha

To America.
For a start, I would like to relate to the families of the firemen and the police who got killed during the rescue of the victims. They have died as heroes and will be remembered for their courage.
We also have problems with terror like in America,
We in Israel have terror attacks every month, but in smaller proportions. As a matter of fact we from all other people understand best what the American people are going through. Therefore Israel and America must work together to eliminate terror from the face of the earth
In my opinion in the next act against terror Israel should join America and fight against terror together.
To sum up, America should and will be strong and rise against terror.
Dima. (Ort Hazor)
